Meditation, yoga and sound

Meditation and yoga often meet sound through breath, attention and listening.

Sound as a focus for attention

In meditation, the sustained tone of a bowl can give the mind a simple thing to rest on. Following a sound until it fades is a common way to begin or close a session.

Sound in yoga

Many yoga teachers use sound to open or close a class, or during final relaxation. Used well, it supports the class without becoming a performance.

Bringing them together

Practitioners who combine these disciplines should work within their training, adapt for comfort and accessibility, and check in with participants.

Knowing the limits

Meditation, yoga and sound support relaxation and wellbeing. They do not replace medical or mental-health assessment, diagnosis or treatment.

This guide is educational. Sound healing supports relaxation and wellbeing and does not replace diagnosis or treatment by qualified health professionals.
